Rhode Island Emergency Medical Services - A division of the Department of Health.
EMT License Application - Download and fill this out after you have completed your EMT course requirements and NREMT exams.
There are 3 levels of EMT licensing in Rhode Island. EMT-B and EMT-Paramedic as most states have, but in Rhode Island they have a unique middle level certification called an EMT-Cardiac. The examination at the EMT-C level is the only one given by the Department of Health. The EMT Basic and Paramedic examinations are administered by the NREMT. Both a National Registry practical test and a computer multiple choice test will need to be passed to be eligible for Rhode Island EMT licensure. Passing these national exams will give you National Certification from the NREMT. It is this certification that the state recognizes as bases for licensing.
The EMT-Cardiac exams are only scheduled once a month and your acceptance is based upon availability. Questions about exams and schedules can be directed to the EMS division at (401) 222-2401.
Registration for the NREMT Paramedic exam is done on the NREMT website, but the state provides a good step by step document to walk you through the process.
If you have some time to prepare before taking your real NREMT or state EMT exam then be sure to look over our EMS practice testing system. Access the EMT study material online anywhere there is access to the internet. It works with any computer and there is nothing to download. All questions have explanations so you are learning while you are testing.
