The state of Illinois is among those few states that do not require an EMT or Paramedic to pass the National Registry Exam in order to obtain an EMT or Paramedic License to practice. Illinois instead has its own EMT exam that must be passed prior to approval and license issuance. Note that during the application process you must disclose whether or not you have ever taken the National Registry Exam (NREMT) before. Failure to disclose this information may get your application for an EMT license denied.

The Illinois Emergency Medical System provides a study guide for each of the 3 different EMS testing levels EMT B, EMT I and Paramedic. These study guides have a breakdown of the Illinois State EMT Exam and about 30 sample EMT questions similar to the ones found on our site.

After you get through that handful of questions take a look at a subscription to our EMT practice exams that contains over 2000 questions with answers and complete rationales. Using our EMT study resource you will definitely be prepared for your Illinois State EMT Test.

Take some time and go through the Illinois EMT License Application Guide to make sure you have all the necessary documentation and fees to submit with your application.
