All EMTs and Paramedics are certified and approved by the Office of Emergency Medical Services or OEMS. The OEMS is also responsible for developing, planning and training those in its service.

To become a certified EMT or Paramedic in Connecticut you must take an pass an approved EMT course. Every EMT course instructor from Andover to Wolcott can be found in this PDF file . You will also have to pass an EMT practical skills examination. The practical exams are usually scheduled and given 2 times a month. Exact dates of the Connecticut EMT practical tests can be found on this form.

Lastly, you will need to be certified nationally by taking the NREMT exam from the National Registry. The NREMT exam is now computer based and given at various Pearson VUE testing centers through out the state of Connecticut.

A good source for NREMT exam preparation is the subscription service here on EMT National Training. You can purchase a 30 day subscription to the EMS database with almost two thousand five hundred questions. All questions are formatted into multiple choice with four potential answers. Subscriptions are available for EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and Paramedic with each following the D.O.T. curriculum for each respective level of training.
