2 Week EMT Boot Camp?

Hi there,
I've been looking for a way to take an EMT Basic course for over a year now.
I'm active duty military and go TDY (out of town) 7-10 days every month without fail.
Naturally every instructor won't let me take their course since I would miss too many hours of class.

I was looking into taking a 2 week boot camp but have heard many negative things. Most comments argue that you really can't learn enough in just 14 days. I completely agree but that has put me back to the drawing board.

Does anyone know of a 1 on 1 type EMT class? Since my schedule won't allow me to take a normal semester I can't figure out a way to get this class under my belt. I need an accredited program so I can utilize my GI Bill.

Any suggestions are welcome.
JC in NorCal

Thanks! Passed first time EMT-I

This web site was the saving grace to help me pass my NREMT EMT I 85 yesterday on the first try. A friend of mine used this site and he passed on his first try ( about 3 months ago) so when he told me about it I knew I needed to sign up. Taking the online tests really let me focus on the areas that I was having problems with. The tests and rationale were spot on and i dont think I would have passed EVER without this site. I did about 1300 questions over a 1 month period before my exam. I told my instructor about this site and he will be passing the info along to his EMT-I students for his upcoming classes so they pass on the first try too. Thank you, thank you, thank you and good luck to all.

State Testing Changes

I am a certified State License Test Evaluator. Over the past eight years I have seen testing for EMT B and I levels devolve from scenario-based skills testing - requiring assessment, life threat treatments, and patient packaging - to an assessment with stated interventions and one skill being demonstrated, to the newly proposed paper examination only test.

I believe this progression (or regression) will be dangerous for future patient care and will reflect badly on the professionalism of EMTs as well. The liability implications in allowing newly minted EMT's to enter the prehospital care arena (especially in volunteer services) with no certification of their ability to actually perform hands-on patient care is staggering.

State testing was also supposed to provide feedback to training institutions on perceived shortfalls in both didactic and psychomotor realms of learning. With the removal of skills assessments for licensing, only assessment and basic knowledge will be tested. The State says it is relying on training institutions to certify skills however the level of psychomotor training differs from institution to institution depending on the amount of practice time allocated and given and the skill of the instructors.

I would like to solicit comments from this board on this matter...

Thank you

I passed my EMT Paramedic Exam yesterday..just found out...I would like to thank the creator of the site and let others know the outstanding job this site does in helping you prepare for the NREMT Written. It is a very hard test is all I willl say... But with hard work, studying, and using the practice tests on the site to test your knowledge and identify areas of weakness you WILL pass it on the first try. It is worth the cost.

William Ritchey
Gulfport, MS

Which test?

Hello, I am a Utah Intermediate and sideline as a SWAT medic. I am looking to take the NR test but don't know whether I should take the I85 or the I99. My training was from the I99 book and I can administer valium, morphine, zofran, epi, atropine, lidocaine, D50, albuterol, diphenhydramine, and all the basic stuff. I do rythem interpritation but only with 4 leads, I would have to learn 12 lead if thats what used by the test but would be no problem. I can establish IVs, intubate, manually defibrilate, and do needle decompressions, I have also been trained to do cricothyrotomys but that was at tactical school not my Intermediate course. I am also ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certified. I have heard that Utah's Intermediate is equivilent to the I85,but from what little I've been able to find I am not sure it sounds like we do alot more then the I85. My instructor said that he thinks I could probably do the I99 and that he believes that that is closer to what we are but he isn't sure as he's not very familiar with the NR stuff. So can anyone enlighten me to what the difference is? I know it doesn't cover everything, but from what I've posted which level does it sound like I am closest to? Anyhelp would be great.
