Scope of Practice on the NREMT

I was wondering about some of the questions I've seen on the site and my first attempt at the NREMT-B. I noticed that some of the answers involved procedures I was told were not in an EMT-B's scope of practice. For Example:

You and your partner arrive at the home of a 59 year old male with a history of acute pulmonary edema. The patient is conscious and breathing at a rate of 28 breaths/min. Which treatment is best indicated?

Your Answer: use a Continous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device.
Correct

Other answers:
Begin mouth-to-mask rescuscitation.
insert an Oropharyngeal airway
insert a Nasopharygeal airway

Rationale: Research is showing that CPAP has better results with fewer problems than the more traditional methods used in the past. While this device may not be in use in many parts of the country yet, it is now included in the National EMS Education Standards as a recommended treatment at the EMT level.

Resources: NEMSES EMT Medicine Cardiovascular V. Management (refer to the current American Heart Association guidelines) C. May be unreliable in cardiac arrest, toxic inhalation 1. Appropriate management of any related ventilatory/respiratory compromise a. BVM assistance b. PEEP c. CPAP/BiPAP d. MTV/ATV

Obviously I knew the answer was CPAP since the goal of treatment would be to get the fluid out of the lungs, but I was told CPAP was a higher level skill than EMT-B. I just don't wanna answer questions wrong when I take my test (which is actually tomorrow) because I limit myself where the NREMT might not?

(Also on a side note do I need to go study changes in CPR guidlines on another site or are they up to date?) I look forward to your replies and thank you in advance

Thank you so much. I purchased a 1 month subscription in 2007 and passed the NREMT Basic on the first try. This time, I purchased a 3 month subscription for the NREMT-P. My subscription expired 1 week before I could schedule the test and y'all extended it for me free of charge. I took the exam this morning and passed!!! It was my first attempt and I'm certain I passed thanks to your site! Thank you again!

Calif Skills testing

I was totally jazzed that I passed my NREMT with a 72!! Yippee! But now I am bummed, as I learned Nat Registry states I need to retest my skills (psychomotor), as it's been over one year.

Does anyone have a lead/suggestion on where I can get a testing site to sign off? Someone out there probably knows an answer. FYI, I tried NCTI and they don't have anything until June/July.

Thanx mucho!

Passed

I used this site for a couple days before taking the NREMT-B and passed after 120 questions. I walked out of the testing center having mixed feelings about the test. This site did help me a lot, it definitely words the questions similar to the NREMT which can be confusing. While taking the test take some deep breaths and think about the question, go with whatever makes the most sense and remember your training.
YOU ALL GOT THIS!
thanks again!!!!

Passed after 72 questions! Thanks!!!

I completed my class and practical test only 2 weeks ago and immediately started preparing for the National Registry test. I actually paid for another site prior to this one and did very well on that site - Nearly 100% on every test. That's when someone told me about your site. I bought a one month subscription to this site and I'm very glad I did. The other site did NOT prepare me for the test like this one. Where I was getting nearly 100% on the other site, here I was getting 60-80 at first and 70-90 after 2 weeks. The questions were much more like the actual test than the other site and it truly prepared me.
Great site and as a tip for others - READ THE RATIONALE for each of your wrong answers. Knowing the correct answer is not important if you don't know the rationale for getting it right. The National test is not based on memorization of these questions, but the rationale of how you made your decision.
Great site!!! Thanks!!!

Passed NREMT-P on FIRST TRY!

Just wanted to say thanks for the great studying I was able to do through your website. I just got my test results this morning and I passed my NREMT-P on my first attempt! I have been inactive for 16 years so I took all the required classes to reactivate; Paramedic refresher, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS. However, without your website I doubt I would have passed the cognitive test. I was very worried after I took the test because it cut me off at 80 questions so I know that could be really good or really bad. I had confidence going into the test but afterward I was second guessing myself. Well, I should have trusted my instincts that your website had prepared me well. Thanks so much!
